In our other forum, "Historian Description of the Life and Death of Civilizations", we've detailed how historians believe that the average age of civilizations is about 200 years, after which it begins to decline, as well as the 10 steps of a civilization's lifespan- where the first generation frees itself from bondage yet the last generation puts itself right back into bondage.

This forum is for discussions on where you believe the U.S., and possibly world, currently are at in this lifecycle. I believe we are somewhere between steps 7 and 8 (7. Complacency to apathy, 8. Apathy to moral decay). What is your opinion?

Where is the US in the Lifespan of Civilizations?

We are about at #8 and part way to 9.

The way things are going and the way more and more people just depend on the "Government" to keep them going it looks bad.People are becoming more apathetic then ever.Look how many don't even care about the politics. Few people even vote at many elections. We need more Conservative leadership.

Hmmm

Interesting theory, though I'm not sure it can be laid in such simple terms. One thing for sure is that at some point we will fall flat on our faces.

Our current society/civilisation depends heavily on our technology. We for example would not be able to communicate if it was not for the internet. Take that away from today's world, I dread to think. We have become dependant on mobile phone, computers, robot industry and our modes of transport that if tomorrow an asteroid smashed into our world wiping out 80% of our population, the survivors would not be able to continue and things would return to a dark age. A few generations later an the old way of life is a myth. Only remnants of our buildings and technology would remain. Add a few thousand years to that and the new people of the world would ask, 'How was it that our ancestors seemed so far advanced with apparent past?" - Sound familiar?

We are not in decay yet, but on the brink I feel. The next big war will change our world for sure.
